A first-half goal from the captain, Billy Sharp, gave Sheffield United a 1-0 win against Huddersfield at Bramall Lane, putting his side level on points with Burnley, who have a game in hand.
The Blades were on top from the start and took the lead on 15 minutes, Senegal’s Iliman Ndiaye, back from the World Cup, playing an inch‑perfect pass through the defence for the skipper to dink over the onrushing Lee Nicholls.

The away side began to show more promise after the interval, with Kaine Kesler-Hayden placing his effort from inside the box just wide. They brought on the striker Jordan Rhodes with time running out in an attempt to f…
The Orlando Pride goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse says she was brought to tears when she received her first England call-up at the age of 29, having remained hopeful she might one day make the squad.
The Oldham-born Moorhouse arrived in the Lionesses’ camp on Monday and trained with the squad for the first time on Tuesday for their Euro 2025 qualifiers against the Republic of Ireland and Sweden.
Her long-awaited first call-up comes after she achieved a league-leading seven clean sheets in 15 games in America’s top women’s division, the National Women’s Soccer League, this season. It comes after another impressive campaign last term after signing for her Florida-based club from Bordeaux in 2022.
At least two teams from the American League East have made the playoffs in each of the past five seasons, and as strange as a shortened 2020 season figures to be, the division figures to continue that streak with two of the elite teams in the majors — the Yankees and Rays — heading up the division. credits: The questions are who will win the division, and whether the young Blue Jays or hard-hitting Red Sox might also make a push toward October. There’s also, of course, the matter of whether the season gets completed, because, you know, coronavirus. The one thing that does seem a certainty is another season of misery for the Baltimore Orioles, who not only get to square off against four divisional rivals who overmatch them, but a strong group of teams from the National League Ea…
Since 1983, only three NFL drafts have produced five or more quarterbacks in the first round. John Elway, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Todd Blackledge, Tony Eason and Ken O’Brien were all selected in the first round of the ‘83 draft. Those selections, together constituting the quarterback class of 1983, remain a gold standard to this day. Four of those six played in a Super Bowl, and three were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1999, five quarterbacks were taken in the first round, with Tim Couch, Donovan McNabb, and Akili Smith going 1-2-3, respectively. Daunte Culpepper and Cade McNown were taken consecutively at 11 and 12. But the only draft this century that saw five quarterbacks go in the first round took place in 2018. Four QBs, if you can remember way back then, were…
Yesterday’s Tonga versus Samoa match at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup in New Zealand opened with one hell of a badass scene, as the two teams engaged in a prematch face-off for the ages. This thing rules so hard: This makes me want to run around my house smashing holes in the wall with my head. Listen to that crowd! Kick fuckin’ ass, rugby men! Tonga (in red) came out on top, 32-18, setting up a match against the tournament host next weekend. …

It's being reported that the Oakland Raiders have waived offensive tackle Joe Barksdale. Barksdale was a third-round pick in Oakland's 2011 draft class. Yes, 2011. It gets worse. Barksdale is the third Raiders player from that class to be released. Chimdi Chekwa, a cornerback drafted in the fourth round, was released on Sept. 1. DeMarcus Van Dyke, a cornerback also selected in the third round, was cut two days later. Dumping Chekwa isn't a huge deal—a handful of other fourth-rounders from 2011 have been released by other teams—but cutting loose two third-rounders just over a year after drafting them is not something that a well-managed football team should be doing. To add a little context, here are the other players that were selected in the first three rounds in 2…
data-mm-id=”_rnst7ezbf”>The Dallas Cowboys played a bunch of scrubs en route to a 3-0 record. Then the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers exposed some obvious weaknesses in the form of consecutive losses. Breezing to a division title won't be the cakewalk it appeared to be a few weeks ago and that realization has allowed one of the longest-running debates in sports to crop up once again.Just how hot is coach Jason Garrett's seat? The Dan Patrick Show gang went deep on the topic this morning in the wake of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones assuring the masses any in-season move isn't in the cards. As Patrick pointed out, Jones could end all speculation by extending Garrett. In the past, the deep-pocketed owner has shown a propensity to give his clapping enthusiast of a side…
data-mm-id=”_a3vuh83ol”>The Georgia Bulldogs are in trouble. Joe Burrow, LSU's Heisman hopeful quarterback, broke his phone. Is he angry? No. He's free of distractions and there is nothing anyone in the entire dang SEC can do about it. Joe Burrow’s phone “broke” this week, Ed Orgeron says, and he didnt want it replaced because he’s focused on the SEC title game. #LSU— Ross Dellenger (@RossDellenger) December 6, 2019What exactly happened to Burrow's phone? No one knows. Maybe he dropped it while juggling playbooks and text books. Maybe it burst into flames from so many "good luck" texts. Maybe he was too focused on the SEC title game to even know what happened. All that matters is that Georgia is screwed. Free of distractions, Joe Burrow can finally co…
data-mm-id=”_8m8p17o33″>Dion Waiters has agreed to a deal to join the Los Angeles Lakers for the rest of the season. Given his offensive prowess when he's properly motivated, the addition of his personality to the locker room is worth the risk for the Lakers. Free agent Dion Waiters has agreed on a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers for the remainder of the season, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) March 5, 2020Waiters worked out for the Lakers earlier in the week and the team came to an agreement with his agent, Rich Paul. Paul obviously has a number of high-profile players on the team already, with LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope topping the list. But there's more to this move than just adding another client of …
